Situated in the
charming hamlet of Branton
Breamish Valley Cottages is situated in the charming hamlet of Branton, which was originally just two farms with their cottages, a church and a school. The church has now closed but the school battles on.
The two ends of the village have evolved in different directions with Branton East Side continuing as an immaculately run farm, while Branton West Side, has gone down the tourist route. The Hardies began the conversion of the farm buildings and the Moralees took over in 1993 after leaving farming. Perhaps the most obvious legacy of our farming days are the cottage names, which nearly all come from fields on the farm at North Charlton.
The pool was built in 1994, Souterpot down to Heathery in 2003 and Hemmel House converted in 2006. After hearing from son Peter that he would like to join the business, we built five new cottages in 2012, Comby Hills round to Heron Hill. As well as Peter moving into the business, our three daughters have all been roped in to help over the years, whether it be in PR, IT or modelling for photographs.
The move from North Charlton kindled a new enthusiasm in us both as we gave up running in the Great North Run and took to the Cheviot Hills. Michele now has a ladies’ walking group called Pete’s Petals (named after their trainer), who take on challenges along the coast and in the hills. Peter has developed a later life obsession for ultramarathons (UTMB, Bob Graham Round etc.), all of which need a lot of family support – all the children and grandchildren think he’s slightly mad!
We are extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world and are very pleased to share it with our guests and their families.
