What’s New in Northumberland in 2023.

New in Northumberland this spring:

If you have a holiday booked with us in 2023, at Breamish Valley Cottages, then you are certainly visiting at the right time. There are a lot of exciting new additions coming to Northumberland this spring, which is going to enhance your holiday experience even more…

AD Gefrin – English Whisky Distillery and Museum Experience

A ten minute drive up the A697 from Breamish Valley cottages, you will find the small market town of Wooler.

Wooler sits on the edge of Northumberland National Park and is your gateway to the Cheviots. This tiny, stone-built market town is home to a bustling high street with a small collection of traditional shops, pubs and cafes. There is also a church as well as buildings that date back to the 17-1800s.

We are sure you will agree that Wooler is full of character and we would always recommend a drive up here to our guests, who are looking for a real taste of Northumberland.

But there is soon to be another great reason to visit this town, as they prepare to welcome AD Gefrin. A brand new, whisky distillery complete with an Anglo-Saxon museum, celebrating Northumberland’s unique heritage and ancient hospitality.

It will showcase contemporary crafts, arts and produce of Northumberland and re-awakening the Northumbrian tradition for Whisky distilling that has slept for over 200 years.

Visitors are invited to step back in time to the Royal Court of the 7th century Northumbrian kings and queens to experience the ancient spirit of hospitality and belonging that inspires us Northumbrians.

You can follow their social media pages for updates but guests staying with us from spring onwards can be sure to add this to their itineraries.

Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden.

Another exciting new arrival to Northumberland this spring, is the grand opening of Lilidorei. If you haven’t already heard the buzz around the world’s largest play structure that is opening in the market town of Alnwick, let us fill you in with a few more details.

Set in the grounds of The Alnwick Garden, Lilidorei is a project that is close to the Duchess of Northumberland’s heart. Over ten years from planning to construction stage, this is going to be something pretty special.

Here are a few things you need to know:

The structure stands at twenty-six metres tall and cost a staggering £15.5million to build. Included in the play structure are six slides (some covered), areas that are connected by zip lines and climbing walls and 170m of bridges.

That’s some impressive stats.

There is also going to be a cafe along with a grassed area for parents to relax while their kids play (good luck finding them when it is time to go home!) The play village is based around Christmas and sees the installation of 1300 Christmas trees so you can enter a magical world all year round. We think this will look wonderful when it is all lit up at night.

Prices are yet to be released, but we think this would make a great day out combined with a visit either to Alnwick Castle or the Garden. If you are looking to explore more of Alnwick read our previous post on 7 Things To Do whilst staying in our cottages.

We can’t wait to start welcoming new faces as well as regulars to the Breamish Valley in 2023. Keep your eyes on the blog to see what other exciting days out you can enjoy during your stay with us.
